Black Snail Retinol Ampoule Review - Korea’s Anti-Aging Powerhouse?
You’re making an awful lot of promises, Dr. G.
Dr. G and I have been online buddies for a little while now and so far I’ve enjoyed each of their products I’ve tested out (here’s a quick review for the Dr. G Peeling Gel review - a gentle exfoliator that I think is good for once-a-week usage. Pick up yours here)
This time, we’re delving in snail mucin.
Quick Points about SNAIL MUCIN:
it’s a popular ingredient in Korean skincare
Ideal for dry skin : highly moisturizing
Supports wound healing : great for acne scars
Rich in peptides, glycolic acid, and zinc
Good for all skin types, especially sensitive, acne-prone or aging skin (which is everybody, so..)
The Main Question I asked - is what Dr. G says true? Checking out their site in Korean, it says the ampoule fulfills the 12 Signs of Anti-Aging.
Which are wrinkles, elasticity, clarity, dark spots, tone, skin barrier, firmness, pores, moisture, lifting, texture and radiance.
Okay, all that in mind. Can snail mucin really fight these things? Reading up on the research (which scientifically isn’t extensive, but the local word is very positive about snail mucin), overall this ingredient is more than trendy. It is effective.
Also from personal experience, I love snail mucin and always have at least one product on hand with it. When my skin feels irritated because of a testing gone awry or too much sun, I’ll cut down on everything else and moisturize with my snail mucin cream.
So in terms of anti-aging.
They are promising a lot. But with all things skincare related, consistent use is key. On top of that, Korean skincare is all about protecting the skin barrier and moisturizing. Those two things alone will go far in keeping your skin healthier and younger-looking.
What about the retinol?
So the truth is, the retinol in this ampoule is quite minimal. Korea isn’t huge on retinols; not like in the US with tretinoin, for example. You can’t expect de-wrinkle-fying powers with this one. But if you’re new to retinols and would like a little extra power, this is a great ampoule to start with.
The lowdown:
non-irritating
moisturizing
non-sticky, easily absorbent
Slight fragrance : this does bother me a little.
excellent for layering into my routine
